In this second book from the Wheel of Time series, Robert Jordan does something that is next to impossible; he gives the reader a novel every bit as good as the first book in the series. Unlike many authors who write sequels because, for whatever reason, they feel they have to, Robert Jordan shows genuine enthusiasm to improve his ability to captivate an audience. As with the first book, the plot has the reader wondering what is happening, while at the same time giving them enough information to guess at most of what is going on. Unlike the first, this book delves deeply into an area where the first appeared unable to go, the realm of character development.
